Google Acquires Writely

Google has acquired Writely, a maker of MS Word-like word processor which runs in a browser. It lets the users collaborate online, share documents instantly within their browsers. This positions Google better to take on Microsoft in the desktop application space. With the launch of Google Calendar (they are testing it now in selected regions), a Microsoft Outlook Calendar type application, called the CL2 they have created another small component to take on MS. Writely fits perfectly into the mould. It is still in beta, but you can expect more from it pretty soon. Really looking forward to testing it out.
